VS Code extension
Select code or text and the panel says what it is, what it weighs, whether it carries personal data and which model the router would pick at what price. Then Ask, Explain or Rewrite in place, and the answer comes back with the model that wrote it, its price and its time under it.
This deployment has not published a build yet. The guide builds the same .vsix from the repository; the desktop app gives you the same assistant over any editor meanwhile.
VS Code 1.90 or later on Windows, macOS and Linux; works with the hosted platform and a self-hosted osr serve. The recommendation comes from the same OpenSmartRoute decision engine as the router behind the API.

The panel
Open it from the compass icon in the activity bar or with OpenSmartRoute: Show the routing panel. It follows the selection as you make it.
The platform you talk to and who you are signed in as - the hosted workspace or your own osr serve.
The local analysis: the task the text asks for, the language, the complexity, the tokens in the selection and around it, whether the text tries to steer the model, and the personal data found by type and count.
The recommended model with this request's cost and the tokens it was priced on; the cheapest, the best and the fastest when they differ; and a month of such requests projected.
The model that wrote the last answer, its cost and its time, and Good / Not good to send the rating back so the router learns.
Commands
In the command palette and, for a selection, in the editor's right-click menu under OpenSmartRoute. A request in flight is cancelled from its notification.
Your question, routed with the selection and its context; the answer opens as Markdown beside the editor.
A fixed question: what the text does, how, and what is risky about it.
Say what to change - or nothing, for fix and simplify code, fix spelling, grammar and clarity for prose - and the selection is replaced. Undo is one keystroke away.

Privacy
Task, tokens, language and personal data are worked out in the editor. Nothing leaves it until you ask for a quote or an answer.
E-mail addresses, phone and card numbers, IBANs, national ids, IP addresses and API keys are replaced by placeholders before a request is sent and put back in the answer on your machine.
The selection, the lines around it (20 by default, 0 for the selection alone), the file name and your instruction. Never other files, the workspace tree or other editors.
Install and sign in
From the store where a listing is live, or from the .vsix on the downloads page. Then run OpenSmartRoute: Sign in; a code is shown, the browser opens your workspace's device page, you approve it, and the editor is connected.
Published with each release on the downloads page; the repository builds the same file with npm install and npm run package in platform/vscode.
