Workflow
Before writing code
- Restate the request in one or two sentences and name the module it belongs to (see
AGENTS.mdsection 2). - Classify the task:
- Small fix (clearly requested, 1–3 files, no schema/dependency/architecture change): state the planned change in one sentence, then proceed.
- Needs approval: new feature, architecture change, new dependency, DB schema change, file deletion, or edits across more than three files. Present a short plan and wait for approval.
- If anything is ambiguous, ask one focused question with a recommended default.
Plan format (for tasks needing approval)
- Goal (one line) and module
- Files to create / modify / delete
- Approach and alternatives considered (one line each)
- Risks (data loss, security, scope creep)
- How it will be tested
Safe-edit rules
- Read the relevant files before editing. Do not edit from memory.
- Keep diffs minimal and focused. No unrelated formatting changes, renames, or refactors.
- Do not delete or rewrite files you did not create without approval.
- Never touch
.env*files with real values, lockfiles (unless adding an approved dependency), or generated files by hand. - Migrations are append-only: never edit an applied migration; add a new one (after approval).
- If a command could be destructive or irreversible, show it and ask first.
- If tests fail, report the failure honestly. Do not weaken or delete tests to make them pass.
- If you break something, say so, then fix it.
After implementing
Always finish with:
- What changed
- Why it changed
- How to test it (exact commands and/or manual steps)
- Assumptions made (and anything you could not verify)
