How long does the integration take?

Change one base URL in an OpenAI-compatible client, or install the Python or TypeScript SDK; the quickstart routes a first request in a few minutes.

Will this lock us into another vendor?

No. The router is Apache-2.0 open source, your provider keys stay yours, and the API is OpenAI-compatible, so leaving is a change of base URL.

What happens when a provider fails?

The router falls back to the next model your policy allows and records the fallback in the trace, so an outage costs a retry, not an incident.

Annual update (`/data-update YYYY`)

Follow docs/onboarding/07-annual-data-update.md:

Retrieval needs an API key. Check that COMTRADE_API_KEY is set in the environment or .env. If it isn't, stop and tell the user how to get one. Never write a key into a file that gets committed.
Work in a copy of code/data-retrieval/Data_Retrieval_2025.ipynb saved as Data_Retrieval_<YYYY+1>.ipynb, and swap the key placeholder for os.environ["COMTRADE_API_KEY"]. The pull is slow (about 150 calls with 10-second sleeps), so run it in the background.
Clean with a copy of datacleaning2025.ipynb, using the same HS-chapter → group mapping (docs/methodology.md#industry-groups).
Write outputs to data/raw/, data/cleaned/, and a new snapshot data/archive/<semester>/2019-<YYYY> cleaned/ + GDP_<YYYY>.csv.

Validation (always run, and report a table)

Row and column counts vs. last year; any all-zero rows
Countries added or removed vs. last year (diff the Country column). Name changes silently break the notebook.
Year-over-year total exports per country: flag |change| > 50%
GDP coverage for every country in the clean file
3 spot-checks against Comtrade totals, if you have web access

Rules

Never modify existing files in data/archive/ or prior years in data/cleaned/. Add new files instead.
Never commit .env, API keys, or partial per-country CSV dumps (keep those outside the repo).
When finished, ask the PM to run archivist so the catalog picks up the new files.

A listing is a routing target with a manifest: what it does, which domains it covers, what it costs and who publishes it. Once installed it sits beside your own models and tools, is scored like any other candidate for each request, and shows up in the trace when it wins. Ratings come from workspaces that installed it, one per account.
