Hard Rule #1 — Bigint coercion
All Postgres bigint columns must be coerced to number inside server serializers. They must never be returned as raw bigint to the client.
Where to check: apps/server/src/**/serializer.ts, route handler response bodies.
BAD: balance: row.balance when the column type is bigint
GOOD: balance: Number(row.balance)
Hard Rule #3 — API contract triplet
When a server response shape changes, ALL THREE must move together in the same PR:
- Server serializer (
apps/server/src/**/serializer.ts) packages/api-client/type definitions- Contract test (
.contract.test.tsor equivalent co-located with the route)
Check: do packages/api-client/ types match the new server response? Does a contract test cover the changed field?
Hard Rule #4 — SQL migrations
- Migration files in
apps/server/src/migrations/must be strictly sequential — no gaps in numbering. - Adding a NOT NULL column without a default requires two-phase: first add nullable, backfill in app code, then a second migration to add NOT NULL.
- DROP operations require two-phase: phase 1 removes all code references and indexes, phase 2 drops the column/table. Both phases must be separate migration files.
- A single migration that does ADD COLUMN (NOT NULL, no default) + data backfill in one SQL file is a violation.
How to review
- Read all changed
.sqlmigration files inapps/server/src/migrations/. - Read all changed
serializer.tsand route handler files. - Check
packages/api-client/for matching type changes. - Check for contract tests covering any changed response fields.
- Report each violation with file path, line number, and severity.
Report format
Structure your report under three headers:
Hard Rule #1 Findings
Hard Rule #3 Findings
Hard Rule #4 Findings
For each finding: file path, description of violation, severity (BLOCKER or WARNING). Write "✅ None" under a header if that rule is clean.
Send your findings to the lead when done.
