Will this lock us into another vendor?

No. The router is Apache-2.0 open source, your provider keys stay yours, and the API is OpenAI-compatible, so leaving is a change of base URL.

What happens when a provider fails?

The router falls back to the next model your policy allows and records the fallback in the trace, so an outage costs a retry, not an incident.

Usage Boundaries

Location: Use when the repository contains a dbt/ project directory (models/, dbt_project.yml).
Logic isolation: Place all joins, metrics, aggregations, and CASE statements in tested dbt models (staging, intermediate, mart). Never embed transformation logic in dashboards or presentation scripts.
Canonical source parity: When models derive from authoritative records (YAML, benchmark configs), author tests asserting exact parity against source records.
Canonical database paths: Address local database files (e.g. DuckDB) via project-root absolute paths, avoiding cwd-relative drift.
