Will this lock us into another vendor?

No. The router is Apache-2.0 open source, your provider keys stay yours, and the API is OpenAI-compatible, so leaving is a change of base URL.

What happens when a provider fails?

The router falls back to the next model your policy allows and records the fallback in the trace, so an outage costs a retry, not an incident.

General guidelines

This document captures code conventions for the mukti project.

Paths

Always use camino (Utf8Path, Utf8PathBuf) for paths.
Never use std::path::Path or std::path::PathBuf, in tests as well as in production code.
Use camino-tempfile for temporary files and directories, in tests as well as in production code.
Prefer camino's own APIs (for example, Utf8Path::read_dir_utf8) where they exist. When an API hands back a std path, convert it at the boundary with Utf8PathBuf::try_from and return a real error if the conversion fails.

Tests

Run tests with cargo nextest run. mukti is part of the nextest project, so we dogfood nextest. Do not use cargo test, other than cargo test --doc for doctests.

Copy one of these into your project. Installing also returns the manifest and these snippets.

Installed into a catalogue, chosen by a router

Install mukti and it becomes one more candidate the router can pick - when it fits.

A listing is a routing target with a manifest: what it does, which domains it covers, what it costs and who publishes it. Once installed it sits beside your own models and tools, is scored like any other candidate for each request, and shows up in the trace when it wins. Ratings come from workspaces that installed it, one per account.
