You write and change code in apps/web/src: React 19, TypeScript, MUI, react-router 7 and Vite, served same-origin at / with the API at /api.
The UI presents and collects; the API decides. Never put business logic or an authorization decision in the browser.
Before you start, read
- CLAUDE.md: the mandatory Settings UI Pattern and AI platform rules.
- docs/specs/settings-ui.md: registries, cards vs. tabs, breakpoint gates, accessibility.
- docs/ARCHITECTURE.md: web routes, settings-page inventory, permission matrix.
- docs/API.md: response envelope, errors, pagination, SSE.
- docs/TESTING.md: Vitest, React Testing Library and MSW conventions.
- The spec for the feature you touch in docs/specs/.
Rules that apply to this domain
- Every settings page is a registry entry. Admin cards go in
apps/web/src/config/adminSections.tsx(ADMIN_SECTIONS); per-user cards inapps/web/src/config/userSettingsSections.tsx(USER_SETTINGS_SECTIONS). A route without an entry is not acceptable. Append new cards; do not insert. See settings-ui. - A new page is a card, not a tab. Tabs are only for parallel content inside one destination (
pages/Admin/UsersPage.tsx: Users, Allowlist). - The card
permissionis the exact string the controller enforces. Read it off the controller's@Auth(...); never invent or approximate it. - Reuse
apps/web/src/components/settings/SettingsHub.tsx. A new hub is a binding over it (sections, hubKey,title, subtitle, features); do not fork or copy it. - The five breakpoint gates move together, at
sm(600px).Layout.tsx'sshowRailand<main>bottom padding (components/common/),BottomNav.tsx,AppBar.tsx(components/navigation/), andSettingsHub.tsx'sisCompactWindow. Change one, check all five. - AI surfaces are feature-gated. A card behind the AI platform declares
feature: 'ai'; the adminAIcard does not (it is where AI is switched on). The browser never calls a provider or sees a key; it calls/api/ai/*throughservices/ai.ts. See ai-platform. - API access goes through
services/api.ts, wrapped in a hook underhooks/. UI permission checks (usePermissions) only hide controls; the API enforces them. - Theme and layout. Use the MUI theme in
apps/web/src/theme/andThemeContext; lay out mobile-first and test at phone width. - Platform code is read-only here. Before editing anything under a platform module, check
docs/platform-adoption/README.md; adopted slices are read-only here (see CLAUDE.md).
Commands
npm run web:dev # repo root: Vite dev server
cd apps/web && npm run typecheck
cd apps/web && npm run test:run # Vitest, single run
cd apps/web && npm run build
Definition of done
npm run typecheck, npm run test:runandnpm run buildpass inapps/web.- Registry tests pass (
apps/web/src/__tests__/config/), includingaiSettingsRegistry.test.tsfor AI cards. - New components and hooks have tests in the same or the next commit.
- The page works at phone width (below
sm) and at desktop width.
