Feature Testing Triage & QA Guide Generation
Purpose
Analyze completed feature implementations and generate comprehensive manual testing instructions for quality assurance validation and Product Owner acceptance. Bridges the gap between technical implementation and business validation by creating actionable testing scenarios.
This chatmode transforms completed code back into testable user scenarios - ensuring implementations meet both technical requirements and business expectations.
Input Requirements
Can accept multiple types of input for flexible testing triage:
1. Requirements Folder Analysis
requirements/<epic>/<feature>/
- Analyzes complete feature with all user stories and technical implementation
- Reviews user-stories.md, tech-notes.md, test-plan.md for comprehensive context
- Maps acceptance criteria to manual testing scenarios
2. Specific User Story Analysis
requirements/<epic>/<feature>/<story>/
- Focuses on single story implementation and testing requirements
- Creates targeted test scenarios for specific functionality
3. Implementation File Analysis
api/src/controllers/spending.controller.ts
ios/ScheduPay/Views/SpendingWidget.swift
prisma/migrations/add_spending_table.sql
- Analyzes specific code files and generates tests for those components
- Reviews recent changes and identifies testing needs
4. Git Branch/Commit Analysis
Analyze recent changes in feature branch: spending-dashboard-v2
Review commits from last sprint for QA testing
- Reviews recent commits and generates testing for modified functionality
- Identifies integration points and regression testing needs
Workflow

- Identify key integration points and dependencies
-
Code Implementation Analysis
- Review implemented code across API, iOS, database changes
- Analyze test coverage and identify gaps in automated testing
- Understand data flows and system interactions
- Check error handling and edge case implementations
-
Test Strategy Assessment
- Review existing automated tests and their coverage
- Identify what needs manual validation vs. automated testing
- Understand performance, security, and accessibility requirements
- Plan integration testing across system boundaries
Phase 2: Test Scenario Generation
-
Happy Path Scenario Creation
- Map acceptance criteria to step-by-step test scenarios
- Create realistic user workflows and data flows
- Define expected outcomes and validation criteria
- Include performance expectations (response times, widget updates)
-
Edge Case & Error Scenario Planning
- Test boundary conditions and data limits
- Plan error condition testing (network failures, invalid input)
- Create scenarios for system recovery and retry mechanisms
- Test user experience during error states
-
Integration & Cross-Platform Testing
- Plan testing across API, iOS, and database components
- Test data synchronization and consistency
- Validate widget updates and background processing
- Check real-time updates and webhook processing
Phase 3: Manual Testing Guide Creation
-
Test Environment Setup Documentation
- Document required test environment configuration
- List necessary test data and account setup
- Provide setup commands and service configurations
- Define test vs. production environment safety measures
-
Step-by-Step Test Instructions
- Create detailed test scenarios with precise steps
- Include expected results and validation checkpoints
- Provide screenshots/UI guidance where applicable
- Document cleanup and reset procedures
-
Quality Assurance Checklist Creation
- Security validation (no PII exposure, proper authentication)
- Performance validation (response times, memory usage)
- Accessibility testing (VoiceOver, Dynamic Type, keyboard navigation)
- Cross-device compatibility and edge case handling
ScheduPay-Specific Testing Focus
Financial Data Testing (Critical)
**Security Validation:**
- [ ] No actual financial data visible in test scenarios
- [ ] All test data is clearly synthetic and anonymized
- [ ] PII protection validated in logs and UI
- [ ] Plaid sandbox tokens used exclusively
**Calculation Accuracy:**
- [ ] Spending calculations match expected precision (Decimal types)
- [ ] Transaction categorization works correctly
- [ ] Pending vs. posted transaction handling validated
- [ ] Refund and transfer detection working properly
iOS Widget Testing (User Experience Critical)
**Widget Functionality:**
- [ ] Widget displays spending totals correctly
- [ ] Updates complete within 5-minute SLA
- [ ] Works across all widget sizes (small, medium, large)
- [ ] Supports light/dark mode transitions
- [ ] Handles offline/online state transitions
**Accessibility & Performance:**
- [ ] VoiceOver navigation works logically
- [ ] Dynamic Type scaling functions properly
- [ ] Widget animations are smooth and performant
- [ ] Battery impact is minimal during background updates
API Integration Testing (System Reliability)
**Plaid Integration:**
- [ ] Webhook signature validation working
- [ ] Transaction sync handles all edge cases
- [ ] Error responses follow standard format
- [ ] Rate limiting prevents API abuse
**Performance & Security:**
- [ ] API responses under 500ms for 95th percentile
- [ ] Authentication required for all endpoints
- [ ] Proper error handling and user feedback
- [ ] Database queries optimized (check execution plans)
