Both consoles are slow, ancient UIs. Nearly everything is in the REST APIs. Drive them by API; use the browser only for the handful of things that genuinely have none, and say clearly which those are so a human can do them.
Start by reading corpan/infra/STORE_AUTOMATION.md — it is the operational
doc, kept deliberately secret-free. Tools:
corpan/infra/asc/asc_monetization.py (App Store Connect) and
corpan/infra/play/play_monetization.py (Google Play).
Absolute rule: nothing secret enters this repo
The repo is PUBLIC. Never commit, paste into a doc, quote in a PR body, echo into a log, or write into a comment:
- a
.p8private key or anyAuthKey_*file - an upload/release keystore, or a keystore password or alias
- a Google service-account JSON
- an App Store Connect Issuer ID or Key ID
- any API token, App-Specific Password, or session cookie
Credentials live in AWS Secrets Manager (region us-east-2), read at
runtime by the tools. Locally, source the repo-root .env or use the
corpan-prod SSO profile. Note the two distinct Apple keys: apple is the App
Store Server API (verifying purchases, used by the lambda);
appStoreConnect is the App Store Connect API (managing products and
offers). They are not interchangeable.
If you need a new credential in the secret, read-modify-write: fetch the
secret JSON, merge your key in, put-secret-value. Overwriting the blob
destroys the verify lambda's keys.
hygiene runs gitleaks over every PR's commit range, but it only catches known
shapes — a bare Issuer ID looks like a UUID and will sail through. The rule is
yours to keep, not the scanner's.
App Store Connect — what the API can do
The App Store Connect API covers essentially all app configuration. With
ES256-JWT auth (Key ID + Issuer ID + .p8 from the appStoreConnect secret):
- Bundle ids — create and read
bundleIds; enable capabilities on them (bundleIdCapabilities: in-app purchase, push, associated domains, App Groups, …). - Certificates — create/list/revoke signing certificates.
- Provisioning profiles — create/list/delete, bound to a bundle id + certificate + devices. Devices register via the API too.
- App metadata — name, subtitle, privacy policy URL, per-locale descriptions/keywords, primary and secondary category, and the age rating declaration.
- Beta / TestFlight — beta groups (create, add builds, add testers), beta app review details, build submission to external testing.
- App privacy — the nutrition-label data-collection declarations.
- Monetization — subscriptions, base configuration, introductory offers,
promotional offers, and offer codes (free and discount), all via
asc_monetization.py. This is the fully-scripted path; no browser needed.
Cannot: create the app record itself. The initial "new app" — reserving the name and binding it to a bundle id — is a human action in App Store Connect. Everything above operates on an app that already exists. Related human-only steps: accepting agreements, tax and banking, and anything requiring an Account Holder signature.
Google Play — what the API can do
Via the Google Play Developer API with google.serviceAccountJson:
- Subscriptions, base plans, offers — read and write, including creating and
activating a free-trial offer (
play_monetization.py trial --days 7 --activate), and setting the backward-compatible (legacyCompatible) flag that Play demands before it will let you create a promo code. - Releases — upload an AAB and assign it to a track (internal, alpha, beta,
production), with staged rollout percentages. This is what
release-mobile.ymldoes. - Store listing — title, descriptions, graphics, per-locale listings.
- Data safety — the data-safety declarations, plus content rating questionnaire submission.
- Testers — internal/closed track tester lists.
Cannot: create the app record itself — the initial app entry in Play
Console is a human action. Also browser-only: generating promo codes
(Monetize with Play → Promo codes) after backcompat has run; Google exposes no
API for code generation.
Gotcha that costs an hour: the Play service account needs a Play Console role that can manage monetization. Read-only roles return 403 on writes, and the error does not say "your role is wrong."
Working rules
- Read before you write. Both tools have a
listsubcommand; run it and report current state before proposing a change. Store config is live production. - Money and availability changes are the founder's call. Propose; do not execute a price, territory, or subscription-price change unasked.
- One product's ids: Corpán is
com.corpora.corpanwithcorpan.sub.monthly/corpan.sub.annual. Dynawalla isinc.corpora.dynawalla. Verify againsttauri.conf.jsonrather than trusting a doc. - When a step has no API, say so plainly and write the exact click-path for the human. Do not simulate a browser session with stored credentials.
- Never echo a secret into command output. Prefer
--secret-idstyle lookups over shell variables that end up in a transcript.
