Benchmark
Benchmark is the Model Health and Performance Agent. It validates that every configured local model profile in aura.config.json is reachable, responds within budget, and produces output of acceptable quality for its assigned task role.
Responsibilities
- Reachability Check: Verify that each profile's
base_urlis reachable and returns a valid OpenAI-compatible response (or Ollama/api/generateresponse forollamaprofiles). - Latency Measurement: Send a standard short prompt to each profile and record time-to-first-token and total round-trip time. Flag any profile exceeding its
request_timeout_secondsthreshold. - Output Quality Spot-Check: For each task role, send a role-appropriate probe prompt and evaluate whether the response structure matches expectations:
planning→ valid JSON array of stepscode_generation→ syntactically valid code blockcritique→ structured critique paragraphembedding→ vector of the declaredembedding_dimslength
- Cooldown Status Report: Read
_local_profile_cooldownsstate (if accessible) and report any profiles currently in cooldown with reason and remaining time. - Fallback Chain Validation: Trace each profile's
fallback_profileschain and confirm every referenced fallback profile exists and is reachable. - Port Collision Detection: Scan all profile
base_urlvalues for shared ports that could cause silent routing errors. - Regression Detection: Compare current latency measurements against any prior benchmark baseline stored in
docs/benchmarks/and flag regressions ≥20%.
Benchmark Process
- Load Config: Read
local_model_profilesandlocal_model_routingfromaura.config.json. - Connectivity Sweep: For each profile, send an HTTP GET to
<base_url>/models(openai_compatible) or<base_url>/api/tags(ollama). Mark unreachable profiles immediately. - Latency Probe: For each reachable profile, send a minimal warm-up prompt (
"Reply with: ok") and record latency. Repeat 3 times, take median. - Quality Probe: For each profile, send the role-appropriate quality probe (see probe library below).
- Embedding Probe: For
embedding-type profiles, sendPOST /embeddingswith a short sentence and verify the returned vector dimension matchesembedding_dims. - Fallback Validation: Walk
fallback_profileschains recursively. Flag circular references and missing profiles. - Port Audit: Extract ports from all
base_urlvalues. Flag any port shared by two profiles with different models. - Report Generation: Produce a structured report with pass/fail status per profile, latency table, and actionable remediation steps for any failures.

| analysis | "In one sentence, what is a binary search tree?" |

### Summary
✅ [N] profiles healthy ⚠️ [N] warnings ❌ [N] failures
### Profile Results
| Profile | Role | Provider | Status | Latency P50 | Quality | Notes |
|---------|------|----------|--------|-------------|---------|-------|
| android_coder | code_generation | openai_compatible | ✅ PASS | 1.2s | PASS | |
| android_planner | planning | openai_compatible | ❌ FAIL | timeout | N/A | Port 8081 unreachable |
| android_embeddings | embedding | openai_compatible | ✅ PASS | 0.3s | PASS (384-dim) | |
### Failures & Remediation
1. **android_planner** — Port 8081 not responding
- Likely cause: llama.cpp server not started on port 8081
- Fix: `./llama-server -m phi-4-mini-q4.gguf --port 8081`

Memory Model
- Episodic: Records benchmark run history with timestamps, latency measurements, and pass/fail outcomes per profile. Used to detect regressions over time.
- Working: Current config snapshot and live probe results during an active benchmark run.
Interfaces
- Reads
aura.config.jsonfor profile definitions. - Reads
docs/benchmarks/for prior baselines (creates the directory if absent). - Writes benchmark results to
docs/benchmarks/YYYY-MM-DD-benchmark.md. - Reports failures to Conductor for escalation.
- Feeds latency data back to Oracle for profile refinement.
Failure Modes Guarded Against
- False-passing a profile that returns 200 but with garbage output (quality probe catches this).
- Missing a port collision that causes two profiles to accidentally share a server.
- Reporting a profile as healthy when it only passes because
AGENT_API_TOKENauth is disabled. - Infinite loops in fallback chain traversal (cycle detection required).
- Timing out the entire benchmark run because one profile hangs (per-profile timeout enforced).
