LLM Wiki — Schema & Conventions
This file tells the LLM how to maintain this wiki. Co-evolve it as the wiki grows.
This particular wiki has a recursive scope: its subject is the LLM-wiki pattern itself. Pages document the format, its operations, design tradeoffs, and tooling. The skill that maintains this wiki lives at .agents/skills/llm-wiki/SKILL.md and is itself an artifact of the pattern. (.claude/skills is a symlink to .agents/skills so Claude Code's plugin loader finds it.)
Layout
raw/— immutable source documents. Read but never modify.wiki/— LLM-maintained markdown pages, one concept per file.index.md— content catalog, rebuilt on every ingest.log.md— append-only chronological record..agents/skills/llm-wiki/SKILL.md— the skill that operates on this wiki (mirrored at.claude/skills/via symlink).
Page conventions
- Filename:
wiki/<topic-slug>.md. Lowercase, hyphenated, no spaces. - Structure: H1 title → one-paragraph lead → H2 sections → final
## See alsowith relative links. - Citations: After any sourced claim, add a quoted line:
> Source: raw/<filename>.md. For specific quotes, also include a short excerpt. - Cross-references: Use standard relative markdown links (
[Topic](other-page.md)) — not Obsidian wikilinks ([[]]), which break GitHub rendering. Inline-first: link on the first mention of a concept that has its own page. Use## See alsoat the bottom only for related pages that don't come up naturally in the body. - Tone: Encyclopaedic. Present tense. No hedging, no "as we'll see", no first person.
- Frontmatter on wiki pages (optional): YAML with
tags, sources, updatedif useful for tooling. Not required.
Raw-source conventions
Files in raw/ start with YAML frontmatter recording provenance:
---
source_url: https://example.com/article # omit if N/A
author: Jane Doe # omit if unknown
retrieved: 2026-05-08
---
Ingest is responsible for adding this when persisting a new source — the user shouldn't have to remember. The frontmatter block is the only part of a raw/ file the agent may edit, and only at first-ingest time; the body below --- is read-only forever.
Index conventions
index.md is content-oriented. Each entry: - [Title](wiki/slug.md) — one-line description. Rebuild from scratch on every ingest; don't append.
The H2 category vocabulary for this wiki is locked. Use exactly these headings, in this order:
- Pattern
- Architecture
- Operations
- Special files
- Tooling
- Adjacent ideas
Adding a new category requires a deliberate edit to this section first. Locking the vocabulary keeps index.md diffs stable across rebuilds — any churn in the categories themselves is now visible as a real schema change rather than a per-ingest re-categorization.
Log conventions
log.md is chronological and append-only. Every entry begins with ## [YYYY-MM-DD] <op> | <subject> so it's grep-parseable: grep "^## \[" log.md | tail -20. Body is a few bullets describing what changed.
Operations
Implemented by the skill at .agents/skills/llm-wiki/SKILL.md:
- Ingest — read source → save to
raw/→ identify 5–15 concepts → create or update wiki pages → ensure bidirectional cross-references → rebuildindex.md→ append tolog.md. - Query — read
index.md→ drill into relevant pages → synthesize cited answer → optionally file the answer back as a new page. - Lint — scan for orphans, broken links, contradictions, missing cross-refs, index gaps.
Schema changes (edits to this file) are plain edits, not a separate operation. Propagate cascading effects to affected wiki pages alongside the edit. Git history covers the schema timeline.
Schema evolution
Update this file when conventions change. The wiki is expected to outgrow its initial schema.
