Documentation Rules (/docs)
This file provides guidelines for working with the documentation in the /docs directory.
Documentation Structure
The /docs directory is organized as follows:
[docs/README.md](mdc:docs/README.md): Main project overview[docs/getting-started.md](mdc:docs/getting-started.md): Setup instructions[docs/architecture/](mdc:docs/architecture): System design documentation[docs/nodes/](mdc:docs/nodes): Node system documentation[docs/oss-client/](mdc:docs/oss-client): Client application docs[docs/rfa/](mdc:docs/rfa): "Requests for Architecture" (RFA) process[docs/roadmap/](mdc:docs/roadmap): Future development plans[docs/roadmap.md](mdc:docs/roadmap.md): High-level roadmap[docs/agent-templates.md](mdc:docs/agent-templates.md): Agent template structure[docs/i18n/](mdc:docs/i18n): Internationalization documentation[docs/error-handling/](mdc:docs/error-handling): Error handling guidelines[docs/storage/](mdc:docs/storage): Storage systems documentation- Additional files for specific topics
Documentation Standards
- Markdown Format: Use GitHub Flavored Markdown
- Headers: Use ATX-style headers (# H1, ## H2) with proper hierarchy
- Code Examples: Use fenced code blocks with language specifiers
// TypeScript example function example(): string { return \"Hello World\"; } - Links: Use relative links to other docs in the repository
- Images: Store in an
assetsorimagesdirectory next to the relevant docs - Diagrams: Prefer Mermaid diagrams for technical illustrations
- Tables: Use standard Markdown tables for tabular data
- Centralized Location: All user-facing documentation (guides, architecture overviews, API docs, etc.) must be placed in the main
/docsdirectory at the root of the repository. Do not place documentation within the/agentdock-coredirectory, as the core is not published as a standalone package yet and all documentation is hosted centrally.
Writing Style
- Audience: Write for developers who are new to the codebase
- Clarity: Be concise but thorough. Explain why, not just how
- Updates: Keep documentation in sync with code changes
- Examples: Include practical examples for complex topics
- Terminology: Define specialized terms when first used
Contributing to Documentation
To contribute documentation:
- For minor fixes, submit a PR with the changes
- For major additions, create an issue first to discuss the approach
- Follow the existing document structure and style
- Include documentation updates in the same PR as related code changes
For questions about documentation, contact the project maintainers or open an issue.
