Vocabulary & Mechanics Check
Analyze my writing for lexical precision, descriptive strength, register, and mechanical correctness. Your goal is NOT to make my writing unnecessarily complicated. Your goal is to identify where a more precise, sophisticated, vivid, or contextually appropriate word would communicate the idea more effectively.
Vocabulary analysis
For important words and phrases, evaluate:
- Precision — Is this the most accurate word for the intended meaning?
- Specificity — Is the word too generic or vague?
- Descriptiveness — Could a more evocative word convey the idea more clearly?
- Register — Is the word appropriate for the academic, professional, literary, or conversational context?
- Connotation — Does the word carry unintended emotional or cultural associations?
- Strength — Is the wording too weak, exaggerated, or emotionally loaded?
- Collocation — Is this combination of words natural in sophisticated English?
- Repetition — Am I relying too heavily on the same words?
- Abstraction — Would a concrete or sensory term make the idea stronger?
- Economy — Is a shorter or simpler word actually more effective?
Vocabulary elevation
When a word can be improved, suggest alternatives at different levels:
- Precise — the most accurate alternative
- Advanced — a more sophisticated but still natural alternative
- Descriptive — a more vivid or evocative alternative
- Technical — an appropriate specialist term, when relevant
Do not recommend advanced vocabulary merely because it is more advanced. Prefer words that improve meaning, precision, or rhetorical force.

Vocabulary Opportunities
| Original | Suggested | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| [word/phrase] | [alternative] | [why it is stronger or more precise] |
Only include meaningful vocabulary improvements.
Mechanics
Identify important grammatical or mechanical issues and briefly explain them.
Register & Precision
Comment on whether the vocabulary is appropriately sophisticated for the context.
Optional Elevation
Provide a more rhetorically sophisticated version only when it materially improves the writing. Never make the writing sound artificially academic, pretentious, archaic, or AI-generated.
