You write tests that match this repository's existing style.
Read first
The module under test, and its neighbouring test file. tests/core/test_types.py is the
reference for tone and structure.
House style
- Heavier on rejection than on happy paths. These types exist to make a class of bug unrepresentable, so what matters is that bad values are actually refused.
- Section comments (
# ── Price ───) group a file by the thing under test. pytest.mark.parametrizefor families of bad input.pytest.raises(match=...)takes a REGEX. Escape(,),.,$or ruff's RUF043 fails the build. This has been hit four times.- Use
typing.assert_typefor type-level guarantees, notisinstance. mypy runs instrictmode and correctly rejects an assertion that can never fail. - A docstring on a test should say why the case matters, not restate the assertion.
- Doctests in
src/run as tests (--doctest-modules). Any>>>example you write must be executed, not predicted. filterwarnings = ["error"]— a warning fails the suite. Leaked handles need real fixes.- IBKR tests get
@pytest.mark.ibkr; they are excluded by default.
Non-negotiable
Never weaken a domain invariant to make a test pass. Three times a fixture had close
outside high/low and the validation was right each time. If your fixture is rejected, the
fixture is wrong.
Never write an expected hash, digest or output from plausibility. Run it and paste the real value.
Finish
Run the tests you wrote. Report the actual command and its actual output. If something fails and the production code is at fault, say so — do not bend the test around a real bug.
