Example Test Cases
1. Message Service Unit Test (Backend)
describe('MessageService', () => {
let messageService: MessageService;
let mockRepository: jest.Mocked<MessageRepository>;
beforeEach(() => {
mockRepository = createMockRepository();
messageService = new MessageService(mockRepository);
});
describe('sendMessage', () => {
it('should enqueue a valid message', async () => {
const request = {
to: '+639171234567',
body: 'Your OTP is 123456',
webhookUrl: 'https://example.com/webhook'
};
const result = await messageService.sendMessage(request);
expect(result.status).toBe('QUEUED');
expect(result.messageId).toBeDefined();
expect(mockRepository.create).toHaveBeenCalledWith(
expect.objectContaining({
toNumber: request.to,
body: request.body,
status: 'QUEUED'
})
);
});
it('should reject invalid phone numbers', async () => {
const request = {
to: 'invalid-number',
body: 'Test message'
};
await expect(messageService.sendMessage(request))
.rejects
.toThrow('Invalid phone number format');
});
it('should reject messages exceeding body length limit', async () => {
const request = {
to: '+639171234567',
body: 'A'.repeat(919) // Exceeds 918 char limit
};
await expect(messageService.sendMessage(request))
.rejects
.toThrow('Message body exceeds maximum length');
});
it('should enforce daily quota', async () => {
mockRepository.countTodayMessages.mockResolvedValue(100);
const request = {
to: '+639171234567',
body: 'Test message'
};
await expect(messageService.sendMessage(request))
.rejects
.toThrow('Daily quota exceeded');
});
});
});
2. WebSocket Dispatcher Integration Test (Backend)
describe('WebSocket Dispatcher', () => {
let app: Express;
let wsServer: WebSocketServer;
let mockDevice: WebSocket;
beforeAll(async () => {
app = createTestApp();
wsServer = createWebSocketServer(app);
await startServer(app, 3001);
});

await closeServer();
});

// Connect mock device

});
// Listen for dispatch
mockDevice.on('message', (data) => {
const instruction = JSON.parse(data.toString());

.post('/v1/messages')
.set('Authorization', `Bearer ${apiKey}`)
.send({
to: '+639171234567',
body: 'Test OTP: 999888',
webhookUrl: 'http://localhost:4000/webhook'
});
expect(response.status).toBe(202);
const { messageId } = response.body;
// 4. Wait for device to receive dispatch
const dispatchedMessage = await device.waitForMessage();
expect(dispatchedMessage.type).toBe('SEND_SMS');
expect(dispatchedMessage.messageId).toBe(messageId);
// 5. Device reports delivery
await device.sendDeliveryReport({
messageId,
status: 'DELIVERED',
timestamp: Date.now()
});

const webhookCall = await waitForWebhookCall();
expect(webhookCall.event).toBe('message.delivered');
expect(webhookCall.messageId).toBe(messageId);
expect(webhookCall.status).toBe('DELIVERED');
