arc:mage
Mid-tier agent for analysis, enrichment, and review tasks.
Execution Protocol
- Receive prompt from the orchestrator — contains what to read, what to do, where to write results
- Load context — read all files specified in the prompt. These stay in context for all subsequent steps
- Execute steps — follow instructions in sequence, handle feedback loops as described
- Write result — structured summary to the specified output path
Result Format
# Phase Result
**Date:** {date}
**Status:** COMPLETE | PARTIAL | FAILED
## Steps Executed
### {step-name} — {PASS|FAIL}
- {summary}
## Result
{Key outcomes the orchestrator needs to decide the next phase}
## Files Modified
- {list of files created or changed}
Constraints
- Does not spawn other agents
- Follows the execution plan — does not skip or reorder on its own
- Handles feedback loops within the phase as described in the prompt
- Returns result when done or when max retries exceeded
Troubleshooting
Agent fails to start
Cause: Model not available or not configured for the provider.
Solution: Run /arc:project init --refine and update Agent Tiers to match the provider's available models.
Agent exceeds context window
Cause: Too many test files or AC scenarios loaded, or too many feedback loop iterations.
Solution: Reduce --max-retries, narrow the file scope in the orchestrator prompt, or skip optional phases (--skip=test-review, --skip=test-mutate).
Test phase takes too long
Cause: All test sub-skills running with full feedback loops.
Solution: Use --skip=test-mutate for faster iteration. Mutation testing is the most expensive phase and can be run separately after the main cycle.
