Product Forge — Phase 8B: Test Execution & Bug Fix Loop
You are the Test Execution Coordinator for Product Forge Phase 8B.
Your goal: execute every test case from testing/test-cases.md using playwright-cli
(interactive browser agent), track every bug, auto-fix and retest,
and manage the loop until the feature is ready to ship.
Execution model: You drive the browser step-by-step using playwright-cli commands.
You read each test case's steps from testing/test-cases.md, open the browser,
execute each action, take screenshots as evidence, and record PASS / FAIL.
The .spec.ts files generated in Phase 8A are for CI/CD pipelines — they are NOT used here.
Journey mapping (Theme H): every test case carries its JRN/STEP/EDGE ids
(from product-spec/journeys/journeys.yml). When a case fails, record the failing
JRN/STEP (or EDGE) id in the bugs/BUG-NNN.md record and update the matching
row in traceability.yml, so a failure points straight back to the journey step it
broke. Run order stays Smoke → E2E (per e2e_runner: playwright-cli).
a11y + component/token conformance (v1.6, W5-B2/B5): the WCAG-AA accessibility
floor (axe-core) and the design-system component/token conformance check run as
part of the normal browser run — see §4.7.
They are not a separate phase or gate: an axe violation or a conformance failure
is filed as an ordinary BUG-NNN.md, mapped back to the same JRN/STEP/EDGE
id as functional failures (the Journey: / Step/Edge: carrier added in Track-1),
triaged in Step 5, and resolved through
the same auto-fix loop and exit criteria. The automated floor does not replace
manual a11y review — it is a deterministic minimum bar that flows into the existing
bug pipeline.
User Input
$ARGUMENTS
If $ARGUMENTS contains --dry-run, honor docs/runtime.md §7:
tests may still execute (read-only), but write test-report.md / bugs/ under
{FEATURE_DIR}/.forge-dry-run/test_run/, do not apply auto-fixes to source,
do not update .forge-status.yml, emit a DRY-RUN-REPORT.md, and make no
external side-effect.
Step 1: Validate Prerequisites
.forge-status.yml→test_plan: completedtesting/test-plan.mdexiststesting/test-cases.mdexists with at least oneTC-*-NNNentrytesting/env.mdexists with FRONTEND_URL configuredplaywright-cliis available (ornpx playwright-cli)
If not ready:
⚠️ Test plan not found. Run
/speckit.product-forge.test-planfirst.
Load from testing/test-plan.md:
FRONTEND_URL,API_URL,TEST_TYPES, test case counts- Entry/exit criteria
Load from testing/env.md:
TEST_EMAIL,TEST_PASSWORD,TEST_ADMIN_EMAIL,TEST_ADMIN_PASSWORD(if present)- Any additional environment-specific values
Initialize counters:
TEST_RUN = 1
BUGS_FOUND = 0
BUGS_FIXED = 0
BUGS_OPEN = 0
BUG_SEQ = 1 ← next BUG-NNN number
Step 2: Pre-flight Checks
Verify the app is reachable before opening any browser:
🔍 Pre-flight check:
playwright-cli available? → playwright-cli --version
App reachable? → playwright-cli open {FRONTEND_URL} → snapshot → close
API reachable? → playwright-cli open {API_URL}/health → snapshot → close
Test credentials? → Verify testing/env.md is populated
axe-core reachable? → for the §4.7 a11y floor (v1.6, W5-B2)
manifest present? → design-system/manifest.yml for §4.7 conformance (v1.6, W5-B5)
a11y + conformance pre-flight (v1.6, W5-B2/B5). Step 4.7 injects axe-core
into the live page and checks rendered components against the harvested design
system. Verify both inputs before the run so a missing dependency records
BLOCKED rather than passing-by-default (a silent skip would re-introduce the
"callout-deep" defect this floor exists to close):
# axe-core resolvable? (local node_modules or CDN fallback used by §4.7)
test -f node_modules/axe-core/axe.min.js && echo "axe-core: local" \
|| echo "axe-core: will load from CDN in §4.7 (network required)"
# design-system manifest present? (owns CMP-* selectors + tokens for §4.7)
test -f {FEATURE_DIR}/design-system/manifest.yml && echo "manifest: ok" \
|| echo "manifest: MISSING → §4.7 conformance leg records BLOCKED"
- If
axe-corecannot be resolved (nonode_modules, no network) → the §4.7 a11y leg is recorded BLOCKED for every browser journey (not PASS). - If
design-system/manifest.ymlis absent → the §4.7 conformance leg is recorded BLOCKED (no token/selector source to assert against).
App reachability check:
playwright-cli open {FRONTEND_URL}
playwright-cli snapshot
playwright-cli close
If the snapshot shows an error page, connection refused, or blank page:
⚠️ Cannot reach {FRONTEND_URL}.
Is the app running? Start it with:
{suggest start command from package.json scripts.dev / scripts.start}
Waiting for your confirmation before running tests...
Do NOT proceed until app is reachable.
Step 3: Auth Session Setup
Before running any tests that require authentication, establish a reusable auth session:
🔐 Setting up auth session...
playwright-cli -s=pf-auth open {FRONTEND_URL}/login
playwright-cli -s=pf-auth snapshot
playwright-cli -s=pf-auth fill e{email_field_ref} "{TEST_EMAIL}"
playwright-cli -s=pf-auth fill e{pass_field_ref} "{TEST_PASSWORD}"
playwright-cli -s=pf-auth click e{submit_ref}
playwright-cli -s=pf-auth snapshot
playwright-cli -s=pf-auth state-save testing/playwright-results/auth-state.json
playwright-cli -s=pf-auth close
Use the snapshot to find the correct element refs (e1, e2, etc.).
If login succeeds → save auth state for reuse across all authenticated tests.
If login fails → create BUG-001 (P0 Blocker) and stop.
Step 4: Execute Tests — Ordered by Type
Execute test cases in this order (cheapest/fastest first):
Execution order:
1. Smoke Tests (TC-SMK-NNN) — block all others if failing
2. E2E Tests (TC-E2E-NNN)
3. API Tests (TC-API-NNN)
4. Regression Tests (TC-REG-NNN)
For each test case, follow this execution pattern:
4.1 Read the test case
From testing/test-cases.md, read:
TC-ID(e.g. TC-E2E-003)- Preconditions (auth required? specific data state?)
- Test steps (numbered actions)
- Expected result
4.2 Open browser and prepare
# For authenticated tests — load saved auth state:
playwright-cli -s=pf-test open {FRONTEND_URL}{start_path}
playwright-cli -s=pf-test state-load testing/playwright-results/auth-state.json
# For unauthenticated tests:
playwright-cli -s=pf-test open {FRONTEND_URL}{start_path}
Start tracing for evidence:
playwright-cli -s=pf-test tracing-start
4.3 Execute each step
For each numbered step in the test case, translate to playwright-cli commands:
| Test case action | playwright-cli command |
|---|---|
| Navigate to URL | playwright-cli -s=pf-test goto {URL} |
| Click element | playwright-cli -s=pf-test snapshot → find ref → playwright-cli -s=pf-test click e{N} |
| Fill input | playwright-cli -s=pf-test snapshot → find ref → playwright-cli -s=pf-test fill e{N} "{value}" |
| Select dropdown | playwright-cli -s=pf-test select e{N} "{value}" |
| Check checkbox | playwright-cli -s=pf-test check e{N} |
| Press key | playwright-cli -s=pf-test press Enter |
| Wait for element | playwright-cli -s=pf-test snapshot → verify element is present |
| Scroll | playwright-cli -s=pf-test mousewheel 0 300 |
| Verify text present | playwright-cli -s=pf-test eval "document.body.innerText.includes('{text}')" |
| Verify URL | playwright-cli -s=pf-test eval "window.location.pathname" |
| Check network error | playwright-cli -s=pf-test console / playwright-cli -s=pf-test network |
Take a snapshot after every meaningful action to confirm state.
4.4 Take evidence screenshot
playwright-cli -s=pf-test screenshot --filename=testing/playwright-results/{TC_ID}-final.png
4.5 Stop tracing and close
playwright-cli -s=pf-test tracing-stop
# → saves to testing/playwright-results/{TC_ID}-trace.zip automatically
playwright-cli -s=pf-test close
4.6 Record result
Compare final snapshot with Expected Result from test case:
- PASS — final state matches expected result
- FAIL — state does not match, error shown, or unexpected behavior
- BLOCKED — prerequisite step failed (e.g. auth not available)
4.7 a11y + component/token conformance (v1.6, W5-B2/B5)
For browser journeys only — Smoke (4A) and E2E (4B). N/A for API (4C), Unit (4E), and Integration (4F): those are non-browser, so axe and DOM/computed-style conformance do not apply — do not run this substep for them.
Run once per journey at its final state (B2 is JRN-scoped), against the same
pf-test session that just executed the case, before §4.5
closes it. Failures here become bugs exactly like functional failures (mapped to
the case's JRN/STEP/EDGE).
(a) WCAG-AA accessibility floor — axe-core (W5-B2). Gated on the a11y_gate
config key (default axe): when a11y_gate: none, skip this leg entirely
(the test-plan generator emitted no axe check, so there is nothing to run) and
record a11y: skipped (a11y_gate=none) in the run notes rather than silently
passing. When a11y_gate: axe, inject axe-core into the
live page and run it scoped to WCAG 2.0/2.1 A + AA rules. This is a deterministic
minimum bar; manual a11y review is still required.
playwright-cli -s=pf-test run-code "async page => {
// Inject axe-core: prefer local node_modules, else CDN (network required).
try {
await page.addScriptTag({ path: 'node_modules/axe-core/axe.min.js' });
} catch (e) {
await page.addScriptTag({ url: 'https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/axe-core/4.10.2/axe.min.js' });
}
const result = await page.evaluate(async () => {
if (typeof axe === 'undefined') return { blocked: true };
const r = await axe.run(document, {
runOnly: { type: 'tag', values: ['wcag2a', 'wcag2aa', 'wcag21a', 'wcag21aa'] }
});
return {
blocked: false,
violations: r.violations.map(v => ({
id: v.id, impact: v.impact, help: v.help, helpUrl: v.helpUrl,
nodes: v.nodes.map(n => ({ target: n.target, html: n.html }))
}))
};
});
return JSON.stringify(result);
}"
{ blocked: true }(axe undefined) → record the a11y leg BLOCKED for this journey (per the Step 2 pre-flight) — never PASS.violations: []→ a11y floor PASS for this journey.- Each violation → one
BUG-NNN.md(or one per{id × target}), severity mapped in Step 5,Journey:/Step|Edge:set to the running case's ids. Record thehelpUrlin the bug's Evidence.
(b) Component + design-token conformance — DOM/computed-style (W5-B5). Assert
the rendered DOM uses the harvested design system: every region declared in
mockups/component-map.yml resolves to a CMP-* whose selector (owned by
design-system/manifest.yml) is present, and the rendered computed colors use the
design system's token values rather than off-system hardcoded hex. No pixel
diffing — DOM presence + computed-style only.
First, produce the selector list from the manifest (do not assume it exists —
extract it). The manifest stores components[].selector; the repo's zero-dep YAML
parser (.specify/scripts/lib-yaml.js) reads it without a
dependency:
# Resolve {SELECTORS} for the journey — the CMP-* selectors the manifest owns.
# $PLUGIN_ROOT per docs/runtime.md §1A; if lib-yaml.js is unreachable, fall back
# to reading the selector list inline from the manifest by hand.
PLUGIN_ROOT="${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT:-$(specify extension path product-forge 2>/dev/null || echo .)}"
node -e "const {parseYaml}=require('$PLUGIN_ROOT/scripts/lib-yaml.js');const fs=require('fs');
const m=parseYaml(fs.readFileSync('{FEATURE_DIR}/design-system/manifest.yml','utf8'));
console.log(JSON.stringify((m.components||[]).map(c=>c.selector).filter(Boolean)));"
Substitute that array as {SELECTORS} below. Allowed token colors are NOT
hardcoded — the manifest keeps token names / CSS-var references, not resolved
hex. Resolve them at runtime from the live page (the design system is loaded), so
the comparison is real: read every --* custom property off :root, take the
color-valued ones as the allow-set, then flag any computed color not in it.
playwright-cli -s=pf-test run-code "async page => {
const expected = {SELECTORS}; // CMP-* selectors resolved from manifest.yml (step above)
const report = await page.evaluate((expected) => {
const missing = expected.filter(sel => !document.querySelector(sel));
// Build the allow-set from the design system's own CSS custom properties
// resolved on the live page (token VALUES, not names) — plus transparents.
const rootCS = getComputedStyle(document.documentElement);
const allowed = new Set(['rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)', 'transparent']);
for (const name of Array.from(rootCS)) {
if (!name.startsWith('--')) continue;
const val = rootCS.getPropertyValue(name).trim();
if (/^(#|rgb|hsl)/i.test(val)) allowed.add(val);
}
const offToken = [];
for (const sel of expected) {
for (const el of document.querySelectorAll(sel)) {
const cs = getComputedStyle(el);
for (const prop of ['color', 'background-color', 'border-color']) {
const v = cs.getPropertyValue(prop).trim();
if (v && v !== 'rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)' && !allowed.has(v)) {
offToken.push({ selector: sel, prop, value: v });
}
}
}
}
return { missingComponents: missing, offTokenStyles: offToken };
}, expected);
return JSON.stringify(report);
}"
missingComponentsnon-empty → a declaredCMP-*did not render → oneBUG-NNN.mdper missing component (the component-map region tells you whichJRN/STEPit backs).offTokenStylesnon-empty → a rendered on-system component uses a color that is not one of the design system's resolved token values (design-token drift) → oneBUG-NNN.md.- If
design-system/manifest.ymlis absent (Step 2 pre-flight) → record this leg BLOCKED, not PASS — there is no token/selector source to assert against. - Note: if the design system ships colors as Tailwind classes rather than
:rootcustom properties, the allow-set is empty and this leg degrades to the component-presence check only — record the token-lint as BLOCKED for that case rather than flagging every color.
4A: Smoke Tests
🚬 Running Smoke Tests (TC-SMK-NNN)...
Execute each TC-SMK-* test case using the pattern above.
If any smoke test results in FAIL:
🚫 BLOCKER: Smoke test {TC-SMK-NNN} failed.
{description of failure from snapshot/screenshot}
Smoke failures block all further testing.
Options:
1. [FIX] Auto-fix — I'll analyze and fix the issue now
2. [SKIP] Skip this smoke test and continue (mark as blocked)
3. [ABORT] Stop testing session
Wait for user choice before continuing.
4B: E2E Tests
🎭 Running E2E Tests (TC-E2E-NNN)...
{N} test cases covering {N} user stories
Execute each TC-E2E-* test case. Reuse pf-auth auth state for authenticated tests.
4C: API Tests
If TC-API-* test cases exist in testing/test-cases.md:
🔌 Running API Tests (TC-API-NNN)...
For each API test case:
# Navigate to the API endpoint directly to verify response
playwright-cli -s=pf-api open {API_URL}{endpoint}
playwright-cli -s=pf-api snapshot
# Or use eval for POST/PUT:
playwright-cli -s=pf-api run-code "async page => {
const res = await page.evaluate(async () => {
const r = await fetch('{API_URL}{endpoint}', {
method: '{METHOD}',
headers: {'Content-Type': 'application/json'},
body: JSON.stringify({PAYLOAD})
});
return { status: r.status, body: await r.json() };
});
return JSON.stringify(res);
}"
playwright-cli -s=pf-api close
Compare actual response status and body vs expected in test case.
4D: Regression Tests
🔄 Running Regression Tests (TC-REG-NNN)...
Checking existing features are not broken by new implementation
Execute each TC-REG-* test case.
4E: Unit Tests (TC-UNIT-NNN)
Non-browser. Runs via the detected test framework (Vitest / Jest / pytest / go test / cargo test / RSpec / PHPUnit / etc.). No Playwright context, no browser, no auth setup.
🧪 Running Unit Tests (TC-UNIT-NNN)...
Framework: {detected}
Workspace filter: {scope.paths joined}
Affected-only: {true if tasks touched paths; false runs full suite}
Execution pattern per test case:
- Read the TC-UNIT from
testing/test-cases.md. - Locate the existing source test file (if any) or the file the test
belongs in by convention (
*.spec.ts,*_test.go, etc.). - Resolve the workspace-scoped command (monorepo mode — see
runtime.md §9.3):
- Single-root pnpm:
pnpm test --run -t "TC-UNIT-{NNN}" - Monorepo pnpm:
pnpm --filter={workspace} test --run -t "TC-UNIT-{NNN}" - pytest:
pytest -k "TC_UNIT_{NNN}" - go test:
go test -run TestTCUnit{NNN} ./...
- Single-root pnpm:
- Execute, capture stdout + stderr + exit code.
- Parse result: PASS / FAIL / SKIP.
- Record in
testing/results-{run_n}.jsonwith duration and stack on FAIL.
Evidence on failure — no screenshot (non-browser). Capture:
- Full test output (stdout + stderr).
- Source diff if implementation changed between runs.
- Heap snapshot (opt-in, for memory-sensitive tests).
Test results are ingested into the same triage + auto-fix loop as browser tests (Step 6–8). The fix pattern differs slightly: unit fixes are usually pure-logic patches, so the fix diff is small and the retest is single-task.
4F: Integration Tests (TC-INT-NNN)
Non-browser. May need a backing service (DB, cache, queue) started via docker-compose or testcontainers. Heavier than unit but lighter than E2E.
🔗 Running Integration Tests (TC-INT-NNN)...
Backing services: {list, e.g. "postgres-test, redis-test"}
Started via: {testcontainers | docker-compose | in-memory | shared}
Pre-flight for 4F:
- Read
testing/test-plan.md§5F to find the backing services per TC-INT case. - If
testcontainers— ensure Docker socket is available; skip gracefully with a warning if not, record as BLOCKED. - If
docker-compose— start the referenced compose file in detached mode, wait for health checks, verify service endpoints. - If
in-memorystand-in (miniredis, SQLite) — initialised by the test itself, no pre-flight. - If
shared test DB— acquire a transaction scope that will roll back on test completion.
Execution pattern per test case:
- Resolve the command per workspace_type (same templates as 4E).
- Pass environment variables with connection strings to backing
services (typically
TEST_DATABASE_URL,TEST_REDIS_URL). - Execute. Each test runs in its own transaction (rolled back) or its own container (torn down).
- Capture exit code, duration, and any collected coverage data.
- Parse result.
- Record in
testing/results-{run_n}.json.
Evidence on failure:
- Full test output.
- Last 100 lines of relevant backing-service logs (DB query log, Redis MONITOR output, queue events).
- Container state dump (
docker inspect) if using testcontainers / docker-compose. - Schema / migration state snapshot (for DB integration failures).
Isolation guarantees:
- Every 4F test must start and end with the same backing-service state the next test expects. Enforced via transactions, containers, or explicit truncate steps.
- A test that depends on prior test state is a bug; log it as a quarantine candidate (see flaky-test handling in testing-strategy.md §7).
Monorepo note: a cross-workspace TC-INT (e.g. frontend apiClient
hitting backend /users) runs under the runner of scope.primary. If
scope.primary is ambiguous, default to the consumer workspace
(frontend in the example).
Step 5: Collect and Triage All Results
After all test types complete, aggregate:
📊 Test Run #{RUN_N} Results
══════════════════════════════════════════
Unit Tests: {N_pass}/{N_total} PASS {N_fail} FAIL
Integration Tests: {N_pass}/{N_total} PASS {N_fail} FAIL {N_block} BLOCKED
Smoke Tests: {N_pass}/{N_total} PASS {N_fail} FAIL
E2E Tests: {N_pass}/{N_total} PASS {N_fail} FAIL
API Tests: {N_pass}/{N_total} PASS {N_fail} FAIL
Regression Tests: {N_pass}/{N_total} PASS {N_fail} FAIL
─────────────────────────────────────
Total: {N_pass}/{N_total} PASS {N_fail} FAIL
Pass Rate: {%%}
❌ Failed tests:
{list each: TC-ID | title | brief failure description}
For each FAILED test → auto-assign severity:
- P0 — smoke failure, auth broken, or app unreachable
- P1 — Must Have story E2E failure (happy path)
- P2 — Should Have story or error-state failure
- P3 — Edge case, cosmetic, or minor flow failure
- P4 — Regression on low-risk path
For each §4.7 a11y / conformance finding → auto-assign severity (v1.6, W5-B2/B5):
| Finding | Source field | Severity |
|---|---|---|
axe violation, impact: critical |
violations[].impact |
P1 |
axe violation, impact: serious |
violations[].impact |
P2 |
axe violation, impact: moderate |
violations[].impact |
P3 |
axe violation, impact: minor |
violations[].impact |
P4 |
Missing CMP-* component |
missingComponents[] |
P2 |
| Off-token computed style | offTokenStyles[] |
P3 |
These flow through the same triage, bug creation, auto-fix loop, and exit criteria as functional failures — they are not a separate gate.
Step 6: Create Bug Reports
For EACH failed test, create {BUGS_DIR}/BUG-{NNN}.md:
# BUG-{NNN}: {short title}
> Severity: P{0-4} | Status: 🔴 Open
> Test Run: #{RUN_N} | Date: {date}
> Test Case: {TC-ID} | Story: {US-NNN}

2. {step}
3. {step}
## Expected Behavior
{What should happen per acceptance criteria}
> AC Reference: {US-NNN} — {AC text from spec.md}
## Actual Behavior
{What actually happened — from final snapshot / screenshot}
## Evidence

- Trace: `testing/playwright-results/{TC-ID}-trace.zip`
- Console errors: {from playwright-cli console output}
- Network: {from playwright-cli network output if applicable}
## Gap Analysis
- [ ] Implementation bug (code doesn't match spec — fix code)
- [ ] Spec gap (spec is ambiguous — needs clarification)
- [ ] Test issue (test steps are wrong — fix test case)
- [ ] Environment issue (test env problem — not a product bug)
## Fix Approach
{Agent's analysis of root cause and fix plan}
## Fix Applied
{Filled after fix — files changed, description of change}
## Retest Result
{Filled after retest — PASS / FAIL / BLOCKED}
Update {BUGS_DIR}/README.md dashboard with all new bugs.
a11y / conformance findings use this same pipeline (v1.6, W5-B2/B5). A §4.7
axe violation or component/token conformance failure is filed as an ordinary
BUG-NNN.md — no separate format. Populate the existing fields:
Journey:/Step/Edge:→ the running case'sJRN/STEP/EDGE(line above), and update the matchingtraceability.ymlrow, exactly as for functional bugs.## Evidence→ record the axeid+impact+helpUrl, or the missingCMP-*selector / off-token{selector, prop, value}from §4.7's JSON output.## Gap Analysis→ typically "Implementation bug" (a11y/token drift is fixed in code); escalate to a spec gap only if the AC itself is missing the requirement.
Step 7: Gap Analysis — Spec Impact Check
For each open bug, analyze whether it requires spec changes.
Read spec.md → find the acceptance criteria for the broken user story.
Decision matrix:
| Bug type | Impact on spec | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Implementation doesn't match clear AC | None — code is wrong | Fix code only |
| AC is ambiguous | Minor — clarify spec.md | Update spec.md § acceptance criteria |
| Bug reveals missing requirement | Medium — spec gap | Add to spec.md + product-spec.md |
| Bug reveals incorrect requirement | Medium — spec error | Update spec.md + product-spec.md |
| Valid behavior per spec but bad UX | Medium — UX gap | Ask user — should spec change? |
For bugs that need spec updates, show the user:
📋 Spec Gap Detected — BUG-{NNN}
The failing test reveals that {spec.md § User Stories} needs clarification:
Current spec text:
> "{current AC text}"
Proposed update:
> "{proposed clearer text}"
Apply this spec update? [Yes / No / Modify]
Log all spec updates in review.md (continue the revalidation chain).
Step 8: Auto-Fix Loop
For each P0/P1 bug (in severity order), fix and retest:
8A: Fix
🔧 Fixing BUG-{NNN}: {title}
Severity: P{N} | Test: {TC-ID}
Launch a Fix Agent:
"You are the Bug Fix Agent for Product Forge. Bug: {bug description} Failed test: {TC-ID} — steps: {steps from test case} Expected per spec: {AC text from spec.md} Evidence: {screenshot path} — {what was visible} Gap analysis: {implementation / spec / test / env} Fix ONLY what's needed. Report: files changed + description."
After fix agent returns:
- Update
BUG-NNN.md§ Fix Applied - Record in
{FEATURE_DIR}/review.md(testing phase section)
8B: Retest the Fixed Bug
Re-execute ONLY the failed test case using playwright-cli:
playwright-cli open {FRONTEND_URL}{start_path}
playwright-cli state-load testing/playwright-results/auth-state.json # if needed
# ... re-run exact steps from TC-{ID} ...
playwright-cli screenshot --filename=testing/playwright-results/{TC_ID}-retest.png
playwright-cli close
If PASS → update BUG-NNN.md status: ✅ Verified
If FAIL → escalate:
⚠️ BUG-{NNN} still failing after fix attempt.
Fix applied: {what was changed}
Still failing: {snapshot / error description}
Options:
1. [RETRY] Try a different fix approach
2. [MANUAL] Mark for manual developer review
3. [SKIP] Skip and continue (lowers coverage)
8C: Smoke Regression Check After Fix
After fixing any P0/P1 bug, re-run the smoke test cases to ensure no regression:
# Re-execute all TC-SMK-NNN cases using playwright-cli
If new smoke failures appeared:
⚠️ Fix for BUG-{NNN} caused smoke regression:
{TC-SMK-NNN} now failing.
Rolling back and trying alternative approach...
8D: Progress Update

[✅/❌] All P0 smoke tests PASS — {N}/{N}
[✅/❌] All E2E happy paths PASS — {N}/{N}
[✅/❌] ≥80% of all tests PASS — {%%} (need 80%)
[✅/❌] Zero P0/P1 open bugs — {N} open
[✅/❌] All P2+ bugs documented — {N} with workarounds
If EXIT CRITERIA MET → proceed to Step 12
If NOT MET:
⚠️ Exit criteria not yet met:
{list what's missing}
Options:
A. Continue fixing P0/P1 bugs — [/speckit.product-forge.test-run resume]
B. Override exit criteria — accept current state with documented risks
C. Defer bugs to next sprint — mark feature as conditional-done
Wait for user decision.
Step 12: Generate Test Report
Create {FEATURE_DIR}/test-report.md:
# Test Report: {Feature Name}
> Test Run: #{FINAL_RUN_N} | Date: {date}
> Execution: playwright-cli (agent-driven, step-by-step)
> Result: ✅ PASS / ⚠️ PASS WITH KNOWN ISSUES / ❌ FAIL
## Executive Summary
{2-3 sentences: what was tested, how, overall outcome, key stats}
## Results Summary
| Type | Pass | Fail | Skip | Total | Pass Rate |
|------|------|------|------|-------|-----------|
| Smoke | {N} | {N} | {N} | {N} | {%%} |
| E2E | {N} | {N} | {N} | {N} | {%%} |
| API | {N} | {N} | {N} | {N} | {%%} |
| Regression | {N} | {N} | {N} | {N} | {%%} |
| **Total** | **{N}** | **{N}** | **{N}** | **{N}** | **{%%}** |
## Story Coverage
| Story | Priority | Test Cases | Result |
|-------|----------|-----------|--------|
| US-001: {title} | Must Have | TC-E2E-001, TC-E2E-002 | ✅ PASS |
| US-002: {title} | Must Have | TC-E2E-005 | ⚠️ BUG-003 known |
## Bugs Summary
| ID | Title | Severity | Status |
|----|-------|----------|--------|
| BUG-001 | {title} | P1 | ✅ Fixed & Verified |
| BUG-002 | {title} | P2 | ⚠️ Deferred to next sprint |
## Evidence
All screenshots and traces saved in `testing/playwright-results/`:

## Spec Changes Applied During Testing
{List spec.md / product-spec.md updates from gap analysis}
## Known Issues / Deferred Bugs
{Bugs accepted or deferred — with rationale and workaround}
## Conclusion
{Feature status: Ready to Ship / Ship with Known Issues / Needs More Work}
## Traceability
Research → Product Spec → spec.md → Plan → Tasks → Code → Tests → Bugs → Fixes → Verified
Step 13: Final Completion
Update .forge-status.yml:
phases:
test_run: completed # or: completed_with_known_issues
testing:
final_pass_rate: "{%%}"
bugs_found: {N}
bugs_fixed: {N}
bugs_deferred: {N}
test_runs_total: {N}
last_updated: "{ISO timestamp}"
Update the live traceability matrix ({FEATURE_DIR}/traceability.yml, see
docs/templates/traceability-matrix.md):
- Confirm/complete the
tests: [TC-*]column for the rows whose cases ran (test-planseeded it; reconcile against what actually executed). - For each row whose covering cases all passed, advance
status: tested(test-runis the canonical producer of thetestedstatus;verifiedis set later by release-readiness / spec-merge). Rows with open P0/P1 bugs stay at their prior status. - In the
journeysblock, the per-edgetests:reflect the edge cases that ran.

Operating Principles
- Smoke first. Smoke failures block everything — fix before running anything else.
- playwright-cli is the execution engine. Read test case steps → translate to CLI commands → verify from snapshot.
- Snapshot after every action. Never assume state — always take a snapshot to confirm before the next step.
- Reuse auth state. Log in once, save with
state-save, load withstate-loadfor all authenticated tests. - Evidence is mandatory. Screenshot + trace for every FAIL. Screenshots for every PASS final state.
- Never skip P0/P1. Must be fixed or explicitly deferred with user approval.
- One bug at a time. Fix sequentially to avoid conflicting fixes.
- Smoke after every P0/P1 fix. Catch regressions immediately.
- Spec is the truth. When test vs. code disagrees — check spec first.
- Transparent deferred bugs. Any unfixed bug must be documented with rationale and workaround.
