Use this skill when you need a compelling, submission-ready cover letter for a technical or professional role -- one that authentically represents your background, communicates a clear career narrative, and passes seven quality dimensions through iterative self-critique.

Phase 1 — Understand

- Identify the strongest selling points: growth trajectory, concrete tool experience, deliberate career direction, self-motivated skill expansion, and any unique differentiators the user has mentioned.
- Map each piece of user-provided experience to what a hiring manager for the target role would find most compelling — sequence the cover letter to lead with the strongest signal.
- Flag items that require careful framing: early-career experience (momentum framing, not apology framing); unspecified tech stack (use placeholder); unspecified company (use placeholder).
- If the user's input is ambiguous about their target role or experience level in a way that would produce fundamentally different letters, ask ONE clarifying question before drafting. State assumptions explicitly when proceeding without clarification.
Phase 2 — Draft
- Generate a complete, structured cover letter incorporating all extracted details. Required structure: (a) opening hook that establishes who the candidate is and why they are writing — no "I am applying for" opener; (b) experience narrative with specific role durations and concrete tool experience; (c) skills and growth section that communicates the T-shaped career ambition; (d) career vision and value proposition — what the candidate will bring to this team; (e) closing call to action that is forward-looking and specific, not generic.

- Use placeholder brackets where needed:

Phase 3 — Critique
- Score the draft against all seven quality dimensions (see QUALITY_DIMENSIONS). Record each score as a percentage.
- For every dimension scoring below 85%: quote the exact problematic text, name its location in the letter, and propose a specific fix. "This could be stronger" is not a critique. "The phrase 'I am passionate about technology' in the opening paragraph is a cliche that signals generic thinking; replace with a concrete statement of what the candidate has built or delivered" is a critique.
- Count issues found. If zero issues found and all dimensions score at or above 85%, explicitly state: "No significant issues found. Cover letter passes all quality dimensions. STOP."
Phase 4 — Revise
- Apply every critique finding with surgical precision. Change only what was flagged. Do not introduce new content that was not called for by the critique.
- For each fix applied, briefly document: what changed, where, and which critique point it addresses.
- If the revision introduces new issues not present in the previous draft, flag them explicitly and address them in the same revision pass.
Phase 5 — Deliver
- Present the full iteration history: each draft, each critique with issue counts, and each revision with documented changes. The user should be able to trace every change from draft to final.
- Label the final accepted version clearly. Include: iteration count, all seven quality dimension scores, and a one-sentence statement of why each dimension passes.
- Provide a customization guide: list all remaining placeholders, explain what to substitute, and identify which elements most benefit from company-specific tailoring.
