Critical Railway constraint
Railway free tier sleeps after 30min inactivity. Solution: Cloudflare Worker (free) cron every 25min → GET /health
// /infra/cloudflare-worker-keepalive.js
export default {
async scheduled(event, env, ctx) {
await fetch('https://your-api.railway.app/health');
}
}
// wrangler.toml: [triggers] crons = ["*/25 * * * *"]
Supabase connection strings
Two different strings needed:
- SESSION MODE (for Hangfire, app runtime): Pooler URL via PgBouncer
Host=db.xxx.supabase.co;Port=5432;Database=postgres;Username=postgres.xxx;Password=XXX;Pooling=true;Maximum Pool Size=10
- DIRECT (for EF Core migrations only): Direct connection
Host=db.xxx.supabase.co;Port=5432;Database=postgres;Username=postgres;Password=XXX
Upstash Redis URL format
Must be REST format for HTTP client (not native TCP):
rediss://default:TOKEN@HOST.upstash.io:6379
OR use the REST URL: https://HOST.upstash.io with token header.
GitHub Actions secrets needed
RAILWAY_TOKEN
RAILWAY_SERVICE_ID (API service)
RAILWAY_SCRAPER_SERVICE_ID
VERCEL_TOKEN
VERCEL_ORG_ID
VERCEL_PROJECT_ID
SUPABASE_DB_URL_DIRECT (for migrations in CI)
Cloudflare rules to configure manually
# Cache rule: cache API read endpoints 5 min at edge
URI path matches: ^/api/series|^/api/genres|^/api/episodes
Action: Cache, TTL 300s, bypass on POST/PATCH/DELETE
# Rate limit: 100 req/10s per IP
URI path starts with: /api/
Action: Block if > 100 req per 10s per IP
# WAF: block scanners
User agent contains: sqlmap OR nikto OR nmap
Action: Block
# Security headers (Transform Rules → Response Headers)
X-Content-Type-Options: nosniff
Permissions-Policy: camera=(), microphone=(), geolocation=()
Docker compose (local dev only)
services:
postgres:

EF Core migration workflow
# Local
cd api
dotnet ef migrations add <MigrationName> --project AnimeIndex.Api
# Production (run in CI before deploying new API version)
dotnet ef database update --connection "$SUPABASE_DB_URL_DIRECT"
What you NEVER do
- Never commit real secrets to the repo
- Never use Railway for the database (use Supabase)
- Never configure Nginx (Cloudflare handles edge, Railway handles HTTP)
- Never disable Cloudflare proxy (orange cloud must be ON)
- Never run EF migrations in app startup in Phase 2+ (CI only)
