Before architecture-level, unfamiliar, cross-cutting, or behavior-changing work, read the relevant TIS KMS documentation.
Treat the TIS KMS as the governing source of truth.

Do not rely on assumptions when the repository or KMS can answer the question.
Working style
For every task:
- Investigate the existing implementation first.
- Identify the exact root cause or relevant architecture.
- Make the smallest safe change.
- Do not rewrite unrelated code.
- Do not broaden scope without explicit approval.
- Preserve existing architecture unless the requested change requires otherwise.
- Add focused regression tests.
- Prefer focused tests over the full repository suite.
- Run:

- If knowledge impact is yes:
- update the relevant KMS documentation
- run python scripts/kms.py sync
- run python scripts/kms.py check again
Never commit, push, merge, or deploy unless explicitly instructed.
Do not modify tis.db unless explicitly approved.
TIS architecture rules
TIS is a multi-tenant SaaS.
Always preserve:
- tenant isolation
- organization scope
- branch/campus scope
- academic-year scope
- authorization and permission boundaries
- data ownership boundaries
Never introduce cross-tenant or cross-branch leakage.
Do not weaken existing authorization or isolation checks.
Permissions
Use the existing permission architecture.
When adding a new privileged action:
- prefer a dedicated assignable permission when appropriate
- define safe defaults
- preserve future role-based assignment
- do not hard-code permanent administrator-only behavior unless explicitly required
Smart Timetable
User-facing terminology:
- Draft Timetable
- Published Timetable
- Timetable History
Avoid exposing internal lifecycle terms such as:
- publication_ready
- active
- superseded
- stale
unless required for debugging or internal documentation.
Published Timetable
The Published Timetable:
- is the official timetable visible to authorized users
- is resolved by the active published pointer
- must remain protected from direct editing
- must not be silently replaced
- must not change until a draft is explicitly published
Draft Timetable
A Draft Timetable:
- is editable
- is not visible as the official timetable
- may be generated
- may be regenerated
- may be manually edited
- may use drag-and-drop/swap
- may be validated
- may be deleted when eligible
- may be published
Timetable History
Timetable History is the version-management area.
It should support:
- viewing specific historical/draft versions
- deletion of eligible never-published versions
- protection of active and previously published official versions
Do not expose technical version controls unnecessarily on the main timetable page.
Generation architecture
Preserve the on-demand Render Workflow architecture.
Do not reintroduce an always-on background worker for production unless explicitly requested.
Preserve:
- durable generation runs
- solver constraints
- validation
- snapshots
- source fingerprints
- lock semantics
- active pointer semantics
- regeneration diversity behavior
Do not change solver behavior unless the task explicitly requires it.
Draft / publish workflow
The intended user workflow is:
Configure → Generate Draft → Review / Edit Draft → Publish to Users
Published timetable page:
- clearly show Published Timetable
- clearly show Published to Users
- allow Edit This Timetable
- allow Create New Timetable when supported
Draft timetable page:
- clearly show Draft Timetable
- clearly show Not Published Yet
- show Generate Timetable when generation is available
- show Publish Timetable clearly when publication is allowed
Publishing must clearly communicate that the draft becomes the official timetable visible to authorized users.
Bug fixing
For bugs:
- Reproduce or trace the exact failure path.
- Do not guess.
- Fix only the confirmed root cause.
- Add focused regression tests.
- Preserve unrelated behavior.
For UI bugs, trace:
- template rendering
- JavaScript behavior
- form/action submission
- router endpoint
- permission checks
- service logic
- transaction commit
- redirect/response
- visible success/error state
Database safety
Do not:
- manually modify production data
- run destructive SQL
- alter active published pointers manually
- modify tis.db
unless explicitly instructed.
For schema changes:
- use the existing migration system
- preserve PostgreSQL compatibility
- validate relevant constraints and race behavior when applicable
Exports
Timetable PDF/XLSX exports must:
- use the exact viewed/selected timetable version
- never silently fall back to another version
- preserve readable subject, teacher, and time content
- use HH:MM - HH:MM time formatting
- preserve icons when part of the approved design without overlap
- keep print/export layout professional and readable
Final report format
After implementation, return only:
- Root cause / objective
- Files changed
- Behavior changed
- Tests/results
- git diff --check result
- KMS impact
- KMS check result
- Ready to commit: Yes/No
If not ready to commit, state exactly what remains.
