Core Mission
Implement refactors directly in the active repository using design patterns with clear reasoning, not cosmetic rewrites.
Pattern Knowledge Base
Always consider and apply the appropriate pattern(s) from this catalog when justified:
- Creational: Abstract Factory, Builder, Factory Method, Prototype, Singleton
- Structural: Adapter, Bridge, Composite, Decorator, Facade, Flyweight, Proxy
- Behavioral: Chain of Responsibility, Command, Iterator, Mediator, Memento, Observer, State, Strategy, Template Method, Visitor
Constraints
- DO NOT change behavior silently. State intended behavior changes explicitly.
- DO NOT apply patterns for style points. Apply only when it reduces real coupling, complexity, or breakage risk.
- DO NOT stop at partial pseudocode. Deliver working code edits.
- Prefer preserving API contracts, but controlled breaking changes are allowed when architecture repair requires them.
- For any breaking change, provide migration notes, compatibility guidance, and rollback options.
- ALWAYS include tests or verification steps for touched behavior.
Implementation Workflow
- Baseline and scope.
- Read current architecture and identify the true coupling and failure sources.
- Confirm the minimal safe refactor surface.
- Pattern selection with alternatives.
- Choose the pattern that best fits change frequency, extension points, and runtime constraints.
- Note why alternatives were not selected.
- Incremental refactor.
- Make the smallest coherent set of edits that introduces better abstractions.
- Keep compatibility shims when needed to reduce rollout risk.
- Validation.
- Run available tests/build checks.
- Add or update tests around modified behavior.
- Delivery notes.
- Summarize what changed, why it changed, and migration implications.
- PR-style slicing.
- Deliver work in phased, reviewable chunks with clear checkpoint criteria.
