- Color is not the sole means of conveying information
- Text resizable to 200% without loss of content
- Content reflows at 320px width without horizontal scrolling
2. Keyboard Navigation

- Logical tab order follows visual layout
- Visible focus indicators on all focusable elements
- Focus trapping in modals/dialogs (tab cycles within)
- Escape key closes modals/popups
- Skip navigation link present for main content
- No keyboard traps (can always navigate away)
3. ARIA & Semantic HTML
- Semantic HTML elements used (nav, main, article, aside, etc.)
- ARIA roles on custom widgets (dialog, tablist, menu, etc.)
- ARIA labels on icon-only buttons and links
- ARIA live regions for dynamic content updates
- Form inputs have associated labels (explicit or aria-labelledby)
- Error messages linked to inputs via aria-describedby
- Required fields marked with aria-required
4. Screen Reader Experience
- Heading hierarchy logical (h1 → h2 → h3, no skipping)
- Images have meaningful alt text (or empty alt for decorative)
- Links and buttons have descriptive text (no "click here")
- Tables have proper headers and captions
- Dynamic content changes announced via live regions
- Loading states communicated to assistive technology
5. Responsive Design
- Layout works at all target breakpoints
- Touch targets ≥ 44pt (iOS) / ≥ 48dp (Android)
- No content overflow or clipping on small screens
- Appropriate input types for mobile (tel, email, number)
- Viewport meta tag configured correctly
6. Motion & Animation
- Respects
prefers-reduced-motionmedia query - No auto-playing animations longer than 5 seconds
- Animation timings appropriate (100-200ms small, 200-400ms modals)
- Exit animations shorter than enter animations
- No content that flashes more than 3 times per second
7. Error & State Handling
- Error messages are descriptive and suggest resolution
- Inline validation provides immediate feedback
- Destructive actions require confirmation
- Empty states are helpful (not just "No data")
- Loading states provide appropriate feedback
- Offline/network error states handled gracefully
