When NOT to Simplify (Stability Exceptions)
- Performance-critical paths: Micro-optimizations may require explicit, "ugly" code (e.g., tight loops, SIMD, buffer manipulation). Leave them alone.
- Security primitives: Cryptography, hashing, and encoding code — correctness over brevity.
- Generated code: Auto-generated files (parsers, protobuf, migrations) — do not touch.
- Code with a TODO explaining the complexity: The author knew it was complex and documented why.
