Systematic Checklist
Input Handling
- All user input validated at trust boundary
- Type, length, format, range checked
- Reject unexpected input (allowlist > denylist)
Authentication
- No hardcoded credentials
- Password hashing with bcrypt/argon2
- Session tokens are random, not predictable
- Failed login doesn't reveal user existence
Authorization
- Every endpoint checks permissions
- Object-level access verified (IDOR)
- No privilege escalation via parameter tampering
Data Protection
- Sensitive data encrypted at rest
- No secrets in logs, errors, or responses
- PII handled per requirements

Error Prevention Principles
- Fail secure - When in doubt, deny access
- Defense in depth - Multiple layers, each assumes others failed
- Least privilege - Minimum permissions necessary
- Secure defaults - Safe out of the box
What NOT to Flag
- Theoretical issues requiring unlikely preconditions
- Dependencies with vulns in unused code paths
- Internal-only tools with appropriate network controls
- Already-mitigated issues (verify mitigation first)
Handoff
After scanning, provide:
- Executive summary for decision-makers
- Technical details for implementers
- Priority order for remediation
- Verification steps after fixes
