Inputs
A PR number or a branch. Get the diff:
- PR:
gh pr diff <n> - branch:
git diff main...HEADAlso read the full new/changed files (a diff alone hides context) with Read. Record the exact reviewed head withgit rev-parse HEADor the PR head SHA. Inspect the diff and files and form your own probe classifications before comparing them with any author-supplied failure-mode preflight. If the head changes afterward, the verdict is stale and must be rerun.
What to review
-
Invariants (hard rules). Apply the same checks the
envmon-spec-checkeragent uses — arcpy-free core/adapters (ADR-0002), no eagerarcgisimport, canonical config fromautogis.core.common.config(ADR-0003), nocore → adaptersimports (ADR-0001). Any violation is a blocker. -
ADR consistency. If the change makes a structural decision — a new GDB table, a new adapter seam, a new config key/file, a new public tool — check whether an ADR documents it (
docs/adr/). If a decision was made with no ADR, call it out as a needed follow-up. -
Test coverage. New public behavior in
autogis/core/should have a test intests/. Flag gaps. Then actually run:python -m pytest -q --tb=shortand report the result. -
Correctness. Read the logic for real bugs: wrong unit/severity handling, off-by-one in parsing, mutable-default args, swallowed exceptions, paths assumed to exist, QA records built but never surfaced. Cite
file:line. -
Recurring-failure probe matrix (issue #332). Classify the diff against every probe ID below before giving a verdict. For each applicable probe, run one minimal adversarial check at the real call-site seam, or cite an existing regression test that exercises it. Mark a probe N/A only with a concrete reason. A green suite alone is not probe evidence.
BOUNDARY_SHAPE— Try missing/empty/None, wrong scalar/container types, malformed CSV/Excel/YAML/JSON, invalid encoding/control characters, quoted booleans, and trust-boundary escaping. Fail cleanly instead of leaking a traceback or silently coercing a different value.CONTRACT_REACHABILITY— Trace a real producer value into its consumer and run the documented CLI/workflow when practical. Check required arguments, state transitions, supported formats, output vocabulary, help/docstrings, and whether the advertised path is actually reachable.IDENTITY_PROVENANCE— Exercise duplicates, reversed order, heterogeneous columns, repeated IDs, and cross-file/cross-run inputs. Verify keys are injective, source provenance participates where needed, and dedupe does not collapse distinct records or depend on first/last-row order.SIDE_EFFECT_SAFETY— Exercise missing targets/no-op writes, existing outputs, output paths that alias inputs, a failure between multi-file/state writes, retry, and concurrent-name collisions. Success must mean the effect happened; destructive writes need explicit intent; related artifacts and checkpoints must publish atomically.ENVIRONMENT_SEAM— Check the supported Python/Windows floor, wheel/package resources, arbitrary working directories, missing optional dependencies, real stream encodings, and live ArcGIS/GUI seams when applicable. Do not accept an in-memory or editable-install test as proof of a production seam it bypasses.
The evidence and control-gap audit behind these probes is in
docs/pr-review-failure-mode-audit.md.
Output
- Findings grouped: Blockers, Should-fix, Nits — each with
file:lineand a concrete suggested change. - A Failure-mode probes table with every probe ID exactly once, a
PASS / FAIL / N/Aresult, and concrete evidence (command/test or N/A reason). Tie each FAIL to a finding. A bare pytest summary is not probe evidence. - The exact reviewed head SHA.
- The pytest result (pass/fail with the summary line).
- A final verdict line:
