Meta’s AI agent, Muse, has achieved a significant milestone, reaching the No. 2 position on the US App Store’s Top Charts. As of September 10th, the app had been downloaded over 83,000 times within the United States. This represents a notable step for Meta’s efforts in the agentic AI space, following the launch of similar products like Meta AI and Threads.
Initial download numbers for Muse are lower than those of other recent Meta app launches. Threads achieved over 4.3 million downloads on its launch day, while Meta AI garnered 108,000 U.S. downloads. Furthermore, ChatGPT’s initial install rate of over half a million in the U.S. within a week surpassed Muse’s achievement, which took twice as long to reach that level.
Despite these figures, the launch of Muse is still being evaluated. The app’s ranking has increased from fourth to second position on the U.S. App Store as of today. However, the Android version of Muse has a lower ranking, at No. 338 in the Productivity category. Download numbers for the Android version are currently unavailable.
Meta believes that agentic AI, which focuses on completing tasks on behalf of users, represents the future of consumer AI. This launch is seen as a key investment in this emerging market. The company’s strategy is being compared to Meta’s previous rebranding from Facebook to focus on the metaverse.
Instinct, another AI agent that uses text messaging and is valued at $2.5 billion, is also competing in this space. Instinct’s ability to build a social graph based on real-life interactions is considered a significant differentiator. The agent has recently rolled out features such as email addresses and a social network for users to coordinate plans, and has integrated with Stripe and 1Password.
